Dec 2-5 – Staycation in FL

The good news is we have new windows installed and a functioning mirror. Bad news is we are waiting for a new Starter to come in from Atlanta. More good news is that some of these parts and work will be covered by our extended warranty (of course after we meet the deductible). The deductible will match the amount that the extended warrantee will cover so not much good news there. In addition Kevin noticed a section of exterior paint that has pealed off and areas of bubbling paint surrounding it. Kevin asked if there is any thing that could be applied to the area to prevent additional bubbling or pealing. “Na once it starts there really is nothing to stop it” was the service reps response. “Do you carry anything that we would put on the area to slow it down” Kevin pleaded. “I would ask at an auto supply store” was the service reps response. Kevin and Theresa will visit auto supply stores as they travel between the RV repair shop and his mothers.

So more good news is we get to spend more time with Kevin's Mom, Glorianna and his sister Torreen. Though Theresa is working and Kevin is trying to get set up to do some part time work for Asponte, the same company who employs Theresa, we still manage to spend some afternoons and evenings with his mom and sister.

Internet connectivity has been a challenge. Theresa got a Verizon Mifi 4gLTE from her boss to use. It has disconnected more than it has stayed connected. It seems to disconnect every time another device connects. It is designed to support up to 10 devices at once however when each new device is connected the others freeze or time-out. The Mifi however indicates all devices are connected. Go figure. Theresa has pushed it to the limit as she has tried to conduct emeetings, google hangouts and join.me sessions with varying degrees of success. Kevin is trying to download Software he needs to get setup so we will see how that goes. The campground wifi is sitting at 20% so that only works for very slow small email messages.

Theresa will do some more research and may need to spend time on the Verizon Helpless desk to figure this out :0.

Kevin checked with the RV service manager on Monday and requested that the starter motor be ordered. This was after last Monday's request to have it tested due to its failure to start in cold weather. Each day since Kevin has inquired on the results of the tests on the starter. Each day the answer was similar. We forgot to test it, or, We could not test it without raising up the rear end of the vehicle. Only after he sat with the Service manager and again explained the difficulty in starting in weather below 45 degrees did he get a commitment that a starter would be ordered. Kevin requested they provide a cost of rebuilt vs new and to work with the extended warrantee company to see how much of the cost they would cover. On Tuesday Kevin sought out the Service manager again to gain status as they had not called him on Monday with an update. The service manager gave Kevin the cost of a new Starter and asked “So do you want us to order one?”. “YES” was the reply. “How long will it take to be delivered?” Kevin asked. “Well it may have to come from Atlanta so figure one to two days” the service manager replied. Today (Thursday) Kevin visited with the Service representative to again seek information on expected delivery date for the starter. The service rep was not willing to provide a date. Kevin then informed him that the Service manager had indicated one to two days back on Tuesday. “Well it says here a two day turn around, that is typically the time it takes them to fill the order before they ship it out” was the next bit of bad news from the service rep. He did confirm that the Starter had been ordered and we still have no delivery date. They are loosing points everyday. However we are still camping for free so not going to complain too much, but this is getting very old!

With this delay, we may have to drive everyday instead of our original plans to drive Friday- Monday and chill and work Tuesday-Thursday. With 2500 miles to cover at 200-300/day that is 10 days or so. We still hope to make it to CA by Xmas. Keeping a positive attitude! At least we are missing the nasty weather crossing the country right now... hope we hit that right :)

Note: I have switched to Dates rather than days in our journey, just to simplify and there is not that much to report ;(
