How the RV got it's name.

Summer of 2010 Kevin and Theresa took their maiden voyage in there “new” RV 2006 40' Allegro Bus. The destination was RAGBRAI XXXVIII and the Leeney family reunion in Waterman, IL. Kiehl joined us for the ride across Iowa then we traveled east to participant in the annual Leeney Jamboree. This is a gathering of first, second and third cousins on Kevin's Mom's side at a farm 1 hour west of Chicago. The intent is to circle the 'wagons' in the front yard, gather round the camp fire and share family and musical performances by a much talented group of singers and original song writers. We arrived a day early to secure our spot in the circle. Unfortunately the midwest had experienced a unusually wet spring, but we were assured my the master of ceremony, Ed Leeney, that the yard would more than support our new purchase...With that Theresa stepped out to guide Kevin off the gravel drive into the designated spot in the 'circle' in the yard. As Kevin creeped forward following Theresa's signals, he made the turn into off the drive into the yard. Theresa's arms immediately raised in the crossed position indicating the need for an immediate STOP! The RV's 2 front tires had sunk into the yard up to the front axle. They then worked to slowly extract the RV back onto the safety of the gravel hard-pack drive, leaving divots on the scale of 2 parallel Panama Cannels in the front yard. The RV was redirected to a confinement on the hard pack for the remainder of the jamboree.

The spectacle of sinking the RV in the Yard inspired three talented song-writer/singers to write, produce and perform the opening song for the 2010 jamboree. Thanks go to Ed Leeney, Ben Leeney and Kiehl Smit for this memorable creation and performance of how the Smitanic got it's name. To view this performance see this video.

So now you know how the RV came to be known as the Smitanic.
